Invitations to SocialBrowse

by psionmark on June 25, 2008

SocialBrowse is a bit like a cross between Twitter and Stumbleupon. Seen a web site you like? Simply add it to SocialBrowse using the Firefox plug-in and all your followers and friends will be able to see it.

The plug-in adds a (hideable) sidebar to Firefox showing all the links added by the people you’re following. I’m trying it out at the moment and it looks like it has some potential.

I’ve got 10 invitations to SocialBrowse up for grabs. Just leave a comment on this post and, if you’re one of the first 10, I’ll get an invitation sent over to you.

Google buys Jaiku!

by psionmark on October 9, 2007

In what is obviously a bit of a kick in the head to Twitter, Google has bought Jaiku, the “micro blogging” platform. I must admit, I’ve always preferred Jaiku since it launched. The whole thing feels much slicker than Twitter and I love the dedicated application for my Nokia E65. It’ll be interesting to see how it comes out the end after it’s had its sprinkle of Google Pixie Dust. Here’s the press release from the Jaiku site:

Jaiku is joining Google. While it’s too soon to comment on specific plans, we look forward to working with our new friends at Google over the coming months to expand in ways we hope you’ll find interesting and useful. Our engineers are excited to be working together and enthusiastic developers lead to great innovation. We look forward to accomplishing great things together. In order to focus on innovation instead of scaling, we have decided to close new user sign-ups for now.

But fear not, all our Jaiku services will stay running the way you are used to and you will be able to invite your friends to Jaiku. We have put together a quick Q&A about the acquisition.

I’m sure you’re really intrigued, so here’s my Jaiku page. As you can see, I have an RSS feed pumping directly into it - just one of the features I love about it.
