Farewell Dreamhost
I’ve been having problems with Dreamhost for a while now. They seem okay as a host until people actually start visiting your site.
One of my blogs gets around 1,500 - 2,000 uniques a day. Not exactly Google, is it? But it’s enough to blow Dreamhost apparently. I did have a translator plug-in that was apparently blowing up their servers every 5 minutes, but despite removing it (and it cost me cold hard cash to purchase), the downtime simply isn’t acceptable.
This weekend I’ve suffered one outage of 8 hours and it’s just gone down again. I opened a Media Temple Grid account a while back and have been gradually moving my sites there. I’ve been keeping an eye on them for a few weeks and watching up-time and so far it’s been excellent. I was going to move the remainder over after Easter anyway, but the latest outage is enough for me to get things moving quickly. As soon as it’s back up, the remainder of my sites are moving to MT.

I’ve moved to Media Temple
As per my earlier post, I’ve decided to go with the Media Temple Grid package for my hosting. Psionmark has been the first of my blogs that I’ve moved from Dreamhost and it was pretty painless. One thing I’ve noticed already is that the site seems quicker.
Why Media Temple? On the whole, most comments I’ve read have been favourable and it’s pretty hard to beat the feature set for the price.
I’m going to leave things for a couple of days to make sure nothing has gone wrong with the move and if everything looks okay, I’ll start shifting the rest of the blogs across.
So far, so good.
