Farewell Dreamhost
I’ve been having problems with Dreamhost for a while now. They seem okay as a host until people actually start visiting your site.
One of my blogs gets around 1,500 - 2,000 uniques a day. Not exactly Google, is it? But it’s enough to blow Dreamhost apparently. I did have a translator plug-in that was apparently blowing up their servers every 5 minutes, but despite removing it (and it cost me cold hard cash to purchase), the downtime simply isn’t acceptable.
This weekend I’ve suffered one outage of 8 hours and it’s just gone down again. I opened a Media Temple Grid account a while back and have been gradually moving my sites there. I’ve been keeping an eye on them for a few weeks and watching up-time and so far it’s been excellent. I was going to move the remainder over after Easter anyway, but the latest outage is enough for me to get things moving quickly. As soon as it’s back up, the remainder of my sites are moving to MT.

Looking for a new host
Okay everyone, I’m looking for a new host, so suggestions please.
I’ve been with Dreamhost for about a year, but it seems I’ve outgrown them. My main blog, which has about 2,100 unique visitors a day, is apparently bringing their server to a halt. I’ve tried as many optimisations as I can, but the bottom line seems to be that, unless I run a bog-standard Wordpress installation, with virtually no plug-ins or modifications (which is what can make it unique), their machines can’t keep up.
I’ve been looking at the Media Temple Grid, amongst many others. The only problem is, when you start looking at comments about virtually any host, there are as many people saying “This is the best host on the planet” as there are people saying “I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole”.
What I’m looking for is the ability to cope with 2,100 visitors a day (and hopefully more soon), the ability to run an Ad Server (I’m currently using OpenAds, or OpenX, or whatever their name is this week), a forum (currently using phpBB3) and maybe some other stuff in the future.
Any help gratefully received!
